Hey y’all! First off, we’re planning for another group ride on Saturday, May 18th at 10:00am at Fountain Park. This bike ride coincides with the city’s Bikes & Blessings event, so we’ll try to make our way to Perkins field. It’s about a three mile ride (route here). Excited to see y’all there, weather permitting!
Tim and I also attended the Warner Robins Area Transportation Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting on May 2, 2024. This was my first meeting as an appointed member of the committee! Of particular note are three things:
- There is roughly $6,000 in available local Complete Streets funding, which we hope will be a starting point to apply for a larger planning grant from the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
- Every 5 years, the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) puts out an updated 25 year Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). Plans are under way to create the 2050 MTP. The MPO and hired consultant, RS&H, will be creating a survey as part of that process and will need your input! When that survey is created, we’ll be sure to help publicize it because we want the city to hear from its citizens about transportation.
- Finally, I’m going to try and push the Citizens Advisory Committee to elect a chairperson and vice chairperson. The CAC has not had consistent participation by all of its jurisdictions for the last few years. Ideally, we’d have 12 citizen members— 2 from each city (Warner Robins, Byron, Centerville, and Perry) and 2 from each county (Houston and Peach).
If you’re interested in becoming a member of the committee, please let Jessica Bird, your local city council, or your county commissioners know!
As of this writing, we currently have the following members:- Nancy Newell, Houston County
- Van Herrington, Houston County
- Stephen Rollyson, City of Warner Robins
- Gerald Pounds, City of Warner Robins
- Ronnie Babbitt, City of Centerville
- Olen Reid, Peach County
- Corey Hull, City of Perry
- Ellen Mazzarella, City of Perry
That’s all I have for now. I hope you’ll have an amazing weekend and have an opportunity to get out and enjoy this lovely weather!
