“It’s a marathon, not a sprint!”

Hi, y’all!

First off, I wanted to share that we’ll have a table set up at the HoustonHealthy 5K Race, Fun Run and Wellness Expo this Saturday, September 21st at 8:00am at the Roy H. “Sonny” Watson Health Pavilion to hand out copies of Georgia Bikes’ “Bicyclist Pocket Guide.” If you’re free, we’d love to see you out!

Second, we’ve been noticeably lax on running events with all this great September weather we’ve been having. Personally speaking, I got a little burnt out pushing our advocacy so hard and needed to remember our mantra: “it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

We’ve recently made a lot of great progress and contacts, including participating in a Road Safety Audit regarding pedestrian safety on the stretch of Watson Boulevard from Walmart to the Health Pavilion. We expect to see some changes to the road and sidewalk design as a result, likely starting next year. Fantastic news in our book!

Regarding events: I think we’ll set up at least one ride in October, likely from Fountain Park to the City of Warner Robins’ Food Truck Roundup & Trunk or Treat at Perkins Field on October 17th from 5-9pm. So keep your eyes peeled for an announcement for that ride!

Longer term, it looks like we’ll be establishing Ride Robins as a 501(c)(3) organization early next year so we can begin pursuing grant funding to get some trails built and signage & road paint installed to establish a network of neighborhood greenways in the area. We’d like to start pursuing the installation of neighborhood traffic calming measures where appropriate, as well.

If those goals strike a chord with you and you’d like to help us attain them, please reach out to us at hello@riderobins.org so we can work together! We are better together, and I’m 100% certain you’ve got some unique talents that can contribute to making middle Georgia better!
